Welcome to Pepper Grey Stories - a new series sharing the lives of the gentle souls behind our collars. Every hound has a story: how they found their person, the quiet ways they've changed a home, the small moments that make them who they are. We're so honoured to share them with you.

"Milo came into our lives in a way we never expected" - Jacki and Brad

The hospital stay

One day, completely out of the blue, we received a call from our vet about an injured greyhound who had been surrendered by the track. He had a severed Achilles and was about to go through a long, difficult recovery. They asked if we could foster him.

We said yes.

Coming home

After a month in the hospital and two major surgeries, Milo finally came home to us — his leg in a full cast, his body healing, and his spirit still unsure of the world around him. For the next six months, our routine became weekly trips to the vet to have his cast changed.

Those early days were hard.

Milo was scared of almost everything — unfamiliar sounds, new environments, and most people. He bonded with his Mommy right away, but it took time for him to trust his Daddy. We never rushed him. We just gave him the space, patience, and consistency he needed.

Slowly, things began to change.

Little by little, Milo started to relax. He began to understand that he was safe — that this was his home, and we were his people.

Beach days and new adventures

Life with Milo now looks very different.

We live on a sailboat, and naturally, life has become slower and more intentional. Our days aren’t rushed. We make time for the simple things — treats, naps, and just being together.

One of our favourite daily rituals is our morning coffee at sunrise. Milo sits with Mommy, soaking in the quiet start to the day (and always getting a few biscuits, of course).

He also absolutely loves his walks and swims at the beach — it’s where we see him at his happiest, completely free and full of life.

Milo has changed us in ways we didn’t expect.

He’s taught us patience — the kind that doesn’t demand progress, but simply allows it.

More than anything, he’s reminded us that everyone deserves a chance. Milo came to us with a broken past, but today, he’s the happiest hound around.

Watching him grow into himself has been one of the most rewarding parts of our lives.

Milo has also been part of our Pepper Grey journey.

He first had the Smile & Wave Martingale Collar, which suited his personality perfectly, and now he wears the Watermelon Collar — bright, fun, and full of life, just like him.

We’re so thankful to be part of the Pepper Grey family.
